Requirements

  • The successful candidate needs to have completed their Trade Test as an Electrician or a Millwright, and N4 Electrical Engineering certificate. 

  • A minimum of 3 years' experience within the maintenance industry, related to preventive and corrective systems. 

  • Valid Wiremen's License. Yellow Card is essential and registration at the Department of Labour. (Proof of conformance to be provided) 

  • Minimum of two years of proof of apprenticeship in the electrical field. 

  • Must be fully conversant with applicable industry standards and specifications. 

  • Computer literate – excel, word and outlook. 

  • Good interpersonal skills. 

  • Excellent communication skills 

  • Ability to complete, communicate, and compile reports in English. 

Responsibilities

  • Installs, commission, operate and maintains all electrical services and systems from point of supply until point of control, safely and efficiently. 

  • Inspect, decommission, maintains, recommission, and operate all electrical portable equipment safely and efficiently as defined on the YP and certified safe use. 

  • Performs preventative and corrective maintenance on the hospital's normal, emergency and UPS electrical power distribution systems, lighting, life support systems, medical gas systems and electric machinery. 

  • Maintains inspection, test and checks sheets and records. 

  • Evaluates the condition of electrical systems and recommends repair or replace actions. 

  • Coordinates maintenance with outside contractors and manage "Permit to Work" systems. 

  • Responds to emergency malfunction events as defined in the priority 1, 2 and 3 Maintenance Policy. Accesses situation and takes action to stabilize situation to avoid further damage and make safe. Complete documents as defined in the company incidents reporting policy and implement actions. 

  • From blueprints and diagrams plans, compile estimates, and recommends materials and costs to repair or install new electrical services and equipment and installs such devices in accordance with local and national regulations and codes and provide all necessary approved COC's with test instrument calibration certificates and Certificates of Conformity documents. 

  • Identifies and evaluates affected areas for proposed construction. 

  • Investigates electric service shutdowns, initiates shutdowns and reactivations. 

  • Oversees the installation of electric services and equipment by outside contractors and records deficiencies on punch list. 

  • Participates in system start-up and commissioning. 

  • Utilizes and maintains tools and instruments associated with the Electrician trade and complete monthly SHEQ reports and check sheets. 

  • Maintains electrical supply and parts inventories, fills out purchase requisitions and maintenance stock levels. 

  • Records time and materials expended on computerized work order system. 

  • Following manufactures and regulatory specifications reviews and updates electrical systems and equipment preventive maintenance records and schedules. 

  • Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others. 

  • Perform SHEQ representative responsibilities for the maintenance department. 

  • Service, repair and inspect systems/machinery accordingly to the maintenance year planner and check sheets
